30 Positive affirmations that could change your mindset and life!

“You are strong. You are brave. You are so incredibly good.”

These are the words of love and positive affirmation spoken by a father to her lovely young daughter in the “Goodnight Whispers” book by Michael Leannah. In this incredible children’s book, the story revolves around a father who creates this nightly routine with her daughter by whispering these strong, empowering words of positive affirmation. As she navigates through life’s challenges, her father’s affirmations remain a constant reminder and bolsters her confidence. The daughter flourishes as a child and grows into a wonderful confident woman. The story comes full-circle when his adult daughter and grandson stand beside the aging father to offer love and support through positive whispers of affirmation.

This is such a heartwarming book and brought back memories of my own dad who has been (and still is!) a pillar of strength for me. He’s believed in me and rooted for me every step of my life. As I write this blog, I am confident that he’d read it, offer me feedback and cheer for me!

While this book makes a lovely night time read with a child, it carries a powerful message and something backed by science. Positive affirmations whether you hear it from others or yourself, have an amazing impact on what you believe and who you become. I’ve read this recently and could relate to it 100 percent- Brain communicates in present tense and not past or future! What does this mean? – Well, allow me to explain…when I watch a scary movie, even my kids notice the fear and the anxiety in my face 🙂 Why am I scared even though I know it’s not reality? It’s because our brains react to what we think and feel in a super literal way!

So, what’s a Positive Affirmation?

It’s a positive statement/s that you tell yourself repeatedly to overcome limiting beliefs and thoughts about yourself. When practiced regularly, it’s more than just a feel good quote or a statement with a potential to change your life!

Try this experiment and see for yourself. Next time you are anxious about giving a presentation or speaking up, don’t tell yourself that you are nervous, tell yourself that you are excited to speak up and contribute and observe how that makes you feel. Said another way, simply change the narrative you tell yourself in any scenario from a negative to a positive one. If you are stuck in traffic and angry about the situation, tell yourself that you are calm and appreciate the time you are getting for yourself.

Don’t stop there though! Your brain is a muscle and needs to be exercised regularly to reap the benefits of positive affirmations! How do you do that? It’s’ simple- Make it a habit. Every morning, write down 3 positive affirmations (even if you are still working on it) as though it already happened or it’s your current reality (remember that brain can only understand present tense!). If you have a gratitude practice, add on that practice.
